Part 1: This first video shows the painting of the hair and the start of painting the face.

The video is just over 2 1/2 minutes long; however the actual painting time of the art in the video is over 2 hours which was painted over a 6 hour time period.

I will paint the woman with yellowish blonde hair. I start on the canvas with a wash of red and put 3,4,5 and more different layers of paint with hundreds of brush strokes to get the color I want.

- Size of the painting is 60 x 90 cm / 24 x 35 inches.
(Not all of the canvas is scene in the art video.)

Part 2. Length: 2 min 05 sec
Part 2: In this 2 minute time-lapse video I concentrate on painting the face, nose and mouth.

While the video is a little over 2 minutes long, the actual painting time of the art in the video is about 2 hours which was painted over a 2-day time period.
Why 2 days? I have to stop to let the paint dry, plus give me time to think about if I like what I am painting. (Many times if I don`t like something it is best to paint over it all in red or another color and start from the beginning.)

As in the first video you see me adding layer after layer after layer of paint that I blend together. I am using 10-11 different colors of paint in this segment; mixing and applying to get the coloring and shading that I like.

The finished face.

The final detailing of the face can take longer than the earlier segments. I move from one part of the painting to the other looking for things that don't look right and then painting over, touching up, correcting them.

Two of the hardest parts for me to paint right the first time are the mouth and the eyes. Many a time I have totally repainted the mouth 4 or more times until I like it.

The finished mouth.

Just the smallest line or hint of paint out of place and the mouth does not look right.
The mouth and eyes make the painting. If they are not right, the painting does not work.
I read somewhere that it took Leornardo daVinci several years to get the mouth of Mona Lisa the way he wanted it. I have had paintings sitting for weeks waiting for me to get the mouth right.
